...is back with her new single, We'll Go Dreaming.
It was recorded in a studio built in her back garden - so she wouldn't have to find a baby sitter.
Find out what else the girl has been up to since she disappeared from the scene, and when she's coming to Cardiff - it's inside...

Now Judie is dreaming of a new success

Wispy voiced Judie Tzuke, best remembered for her moody single, Stay With Me Till Dawn in '79 is back on the music scene at last with a new single We'll Go Dreaming.
It is her first single for three years and will be followed by her seventh album, Turning Stones.
In April Judie will be in Cardiff as part of her UK tour. Her concert at the St Davids Hall is on April 11.
DAWN BEBE had a word with Judie to find out just what the heck the songster has been up to and a few other important details...

Okay Judie give us your full name.
* Judie Tzuke - that 's it. My name is Polish but I was born in London, I've never lived there.

"I was particularly precocious as a child and wouldn't do schoolwork."

School?
* I went to a boarding school in Tring and then the Arts Educational Trust School of Ballet and Drama. It was on Hyde Park Corner in London where the Intercontinental hotel is now.

Why did you go there?
* Apparently I was particuiarly precocious as a child and wouldn't do schoolwork. My parents thought if they sent me to drama school I might learn something.

Were you particularly musical as a child?
* I was but I didn't know it then. At the age of 11 I was really into Tamala Motown stuff. I liked Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor as well.
Everyone at school was into classical music and dance, but I didn't like those.
At the age of 12 I decided I wanted to be a singer songwriter, so I sat down with my guitar and started to write songs.
I'd always done that kind of thing. I used to write poems in my diary. I was totally self taught and I was the only one doing it so there was no competition.

"They were crying out for music like mine. I had it really easy."

What happened then?
* When I left school I went round singing in folk clubs and did my first tour in '79.

Did you have trouble getting a record deal?
* No, as soon as I decided to push myself I was accepted straight away. The time was right for singer songwriters. Joni Mitchell and James Taylor, my heroes at the time, were all the rage. They were crying out for music like mine. I had it really easy. The problems came later.

What kind of problems did you have?
* My career has almost been the wrong way around. I had fame and instant success straight away. I didn't have to struggle like other artists at the beginning.

"I'm not a religious person."

Things started to go wrong after I joined Polydor. They wanted to take me away from the people I usually recorded with and put me with different producers.
None of the producers I was offered were right, but I felt so confused I eventuatly agreed to one of them, just to say yes to one of them.

What was the result?
* When I finished the album I wasn't happy with the record at all. In fact I was so unhappy I rang my manager and said I didn't want it released. He agreed with me.
Luckily all the originai people at Polydor had left. The new ones agreed to let me start again.

So all went smoothly?
* Well not quite. I've lived with Paui Muggleton for about nine years now. I found out I was pregnant.

Did you feel you wanted to get married?
* No, I'm not a religious person so I felt it would be hypocritical to marry in a church and our local registry office resembles a dentists surgery, so I didn't want to get married there. In the end we decided there was no point.

So what did you do with a babe ln the offing?
* We decided to build a recording studio in my back garden. That way we wouldn't have to find a babysitter all the time.

"My records haven't been as successful commercially as I'd like."

Who worked with you on the album?
* The people I've always written and recorded with - Paul, Mike Paxman and Bob Noble. We invited Nigel Kennedy the viotinist, jazz sax player Andy Shepherd and Simple Minds bass guitarist, John Giblin to join us for the album. It made it more interesting, it was great.

"My career Has almost been the wrong way around. I Had fame and instant success straight away. The problems came later."

Is commercial success important to you?
* Due to the problems I've had, my records haven't been as successful commercially as I'd like.
My fan club has always been quite strong though.
Are your parents pleased at the way your career has gone?
* My father died when I was 15 so although he knew I liked music, he never knew how far I've gone with it.

"My best friend at school came from Milford Haven. I like Wales."

He would have been pleased. My parents always encouraged me with my music I was lucky. I think my mum's pleased now.

Are you looking forward to coming to Wales?
* Yes, my best friend at school came from Milford Haven in West Wales. I've had some great times over there when I went to stay with her. I like Wales.

Return !!!
