Judie Tzuke - Press Cuttings.
The following article was published in the Netherlands in 1982. Thanks to Fred Koene for supplying it.
Road Noise
The new album 'Road Noise' by the English singer Judie Tzuke is, as the
title already suggests, a live album, which, as far as quality is
concerned, cannot be counted among the best of its kind. The sound
quality and production leave a lot to be desired. Especially the
interruptions in the applause on side two, the quick fade out of 'Love
on the Border' (did anything go wrong during the show, so it could not
be saved for posterity?) and the remarkably muffled applause at the
beginning of the ballad 'Come hell or Waters High' are highly annoying.
Actually, it's a pity so little attention was paid to this record
because 'Road Noise' proves that Judie Tzuke's wonderful voice also
works on stage.
Just listen to breathtaking versions of 'For You' and 'Stay with me till
Dawn'.
The album also proves that Judie is accompanied by a very tight band
which, for some reason or another, swings more on stage than in the
studio. 'Road Noise' (if you play the record you imagine yourself being
present at the actual concert) therefore is an album for the devotees
and those who were present at the concerts (a souvenir). This means that
only a limited group of people will actually buy it and Judie will not
get anyway nearer to the top. And if there is anything she deserves, it
is just that.
