Judie Tzuke's last two albums have been released via her own label, Big Moon. While there are creative bonuses to this arrangement, her music has certainly suffered in availability stakes. Judie has even hinted that 'Secret Agent' - the 13th studio album in a 20-year career - may be her last unless it sells in sufficient quantities. Whatever is the world coming to?
As ever, Tzuke's twin watchwords are fragility and quality. Although the Status Quo rhythm section of 'Rhino' Edwards ad Jeff rich are long gone, Pino Palladino pits his peerless bass playing against Judie's nightingale vocals on over half the album. Material wise, Tzuke has rarely bettered songs like 'The Girl I Want To BE', 'Secret Agent' and 'Mother'. That said, don't go holding your breath as you wait for the use of Cher-like vocal effects utilised on 'That's Where My Heart Used To Be' to propel the song to the top of the single charts!
