The Best Of
ROCKET 811392-2
As is often the case, not actually a best of as such, but a compilation of tracks from a period with one particular record company, here from this British singer's first three albums, from 1979 to '81. But no matter, as they were probably her best albums anyway, and it's arguable that little if any of her later material would merit inclusion at the expense of any of the tracks here, among which are Black Furs, For You, Welcome To the Cruise and her solitary hit, Stay With Me Till Dawn. A would-be Semi-rocker, but unable to "come out" because of a voice that was too fragile, she was nevertheless at her best on highly melodic, breathy ballads (here, Sukarita, For You, Come Hell Or Waters High, Stay With Me Till Dawn), where her voice weaved its way through often exemplary arrangements with lovely results. * * * *
